Break Bulk Shipping for Cargo That Doesn't Fit the Box

Some cargo is too long, too heavy or too irregular for a container. Break bulk is how it still crosses oceans.

OVERVIEW

About our break bulk service

Containers standardized global shipping, but plenty of legitimate cargo simply does not fit one. Steel structures, machinery, vehicles on their own wheels, long pipes and oversized units all move as break bulk: loaded individually onto vessels rather than sealed into containers.

Frequent Shipping coordinates break bulk shipments from and to the UAE, arranging vessel space, port handling and the documentation this cargo category demands. For the most complex oversized moves, break bulk connects directly with our project logistics service.

Typical break bulk cargo

  • Machinery and plant equipment
  • Steel, pipes and long-length materials
  • Vehicles and rolling units
  • Boats and marine equipment
  • Oversized single pieces below full project scale

SCOPE / WHAT'S INCLUDED

What our break bulk service includes

  • Vessel space arrangement

Space booked on services that accept non-containerized cargo on your lane.

  • Port handling coordination

Lifting, loading and discharge coordinated with the port and carrier.

  • Cargo documentation

The measurement, packing and shipping documents break bulk requires.

  • Connection to project logistics

For multi-piece or exceptionally complex moves, seamless escalation to full project handling.

VALUE / KEY BENEFITS

Why it works

Break bulk punishes poor preparation more than any container ever will. We plan the measurements, the handling and the paperwork before the cargo reaches the port.

  • A route for the unfittable

Cargo excluded by container dimensions still gets a planned, economical ocean option.

  • Handling planned in advance

Lifts and port operations are arranged before the cargo arrives, not improvised at the quay.

  • One team into project scale

If the move grows in complexity, the same team carries it into project logistics.

OPS / PROCESS

How the process works

A real sequence you can plan against, from first enquiry to completed shipment.

  1. 01

    Cargo measurement & review

Exact dimensions, weight and lifting points define what the move requires.

  2. 02

    Vessel & handling plan

Space is arranged and port handling coordinated for both ends.

  3. 03

    Shipment & monitoring

Loading, sailing and discharge are coordinated and tracked.

  4. 04

    Delivery coordination

Onward movement from the port arranged where required.

FAQ / COMMON QUESTIONS

Break Bulk questions, answered

What is break bulk shipping?

Break bulk is ocean cargo shipped as individual pieces, lifted onto the vessel and stowed separately: rather than sealed inside standard containers. It is the normal method for cargo too large, heavy or irregular for containerization.

How do I know if my cargo is break bulk or project cargo?

As a rule of thumb: a single oversized piece that a vessel can accept with standard handling is break bulk; multi-piece moves needing route planning, special transport engineering or multimodal coordination are project logistics. Send us the details and we will place it correctly.

REQ / QUOTE

Too big for a container?

Send dimensions, weight and the lane. We will confirm how it ships.
